For several years, I grew French lavender on my back porch. The pale greenery and delicate purple flowers complemented the rest of my garden, and more importantly, the fragrant smell helped cover up my more illicit plants. This review’s Lavender, however, is completely different and won’t be covering up any marijuana smells. A triple threat of potent smelling strains–Super Skunk x Big Skunk Korean x Afghani Hawaiian–it’s going to be too busy making them.
The buds were dry and not well trimmed, but at $45 for a quarter, you get what you pay for. Most notable are its bright orange hairs littered all across the buds. As many indica hybrids, the buds were very fluffy when broken down. There was a leafy green chlorophyll smell. Like my own early attempts at homegrown, a longer cure might have helped that. A floral herbiness does stand out. There is also some dark fruit in the green hit, the only hint of the purple that is present in the genetics. It is not a particularly interesting harvest of this strain, but again, it is also under $10 a gram.
This discount Lavender put me down to sleep pretty quick after a big blunt during my first session. A shockingly potent indica dominant, it was notably effective for insomnia. Most of the time, though, it is mellow and spacy high. After putting me down on my first session, I was hesitant to try anything but late night use again. However, I wanted to test it before going out to work one day, and I wasn’t locked or dazed. It was, however, distracting. Lights, colors, noises–I was like a small child with my level of attention. It was surprisingly good sensory engagement for an indica, probably from the Skunk. I didn’t find it to be especially social and noticed much more in physical relief than psychosomatic relief. It peaked quickly and pointedly before fiddling out. There is also some chattiness toward the end of the high: that Skunk sneaking in again. I found it most effective when looking for a xanax like sedation or light pain relief, as well as late night calming before bed to ease sleeplessness.
