I have been getting text messages for some time from a dispensary called AWC. I have frequented many spots, and it is not unheard of for me to sign up for their newsletters or deals by text and email. However, I couldn’t remember AWC at all. I checked Weedmaps, and they weren’t listed there either. Who was this mystery collective? Well, about a week ago, I decided to find out. I was already on the north side of Santa Ana, visiting another dispensary when my phone vibrated. It was one of my AWC messages. This one touted a new batch of “near” 30% THC Mango Kush. If I was going to rediscover this shop, today was the day to do it.
I drove down 17th Street, paying close attention to my phone’s navigation. Once I located the parking lot, I noticed that the text didn’t offer the unit number. I checked the directory on the building, but no luck there either. After wandering around like a possible burglar, I was about set to leave when a head popped out a door behind me. We locked eyes, and I inferred aloud that perhaps they were AWC. It was, and he invited me in. So it was going to be one of those types of shops. I prepared for the speakeasy atmosphere and walked in.
I knew I wanted the Mango Kush specifically and asked for an eighth by name. I don’t know about the exact testing numbers, as it wasn’t provided, but one thing is for sure, this batch was indeed dank.
The first thing I noticed about this strain when I got it home was how sticky it was. Not strictly a sign of strength, it is still encouraging to see. The lightly colored buds sported pale orange hairs and a tropical scent–creating a sunny vacation like attitude. The taste follows suit with a tropical fruit salad medley of flavors. The exhale on the green hit is remarkably sweet and luscious. When taken as a whole, the sensuous aesthetics of this strain are extraordinary.
This mostly indica hybrid left me lazy and muddled. There is significant relief for minor pain and stomach ailments. A dreamlike daytime high, there is a strong disconnect, so it’s good for anxiety or even depression. There is no drowsiness or lock, so I don’t find this useful late at night. Instead, I medicated with it for non-responsibility days when I needed potent physical relief but didn’t want to sleep away the day.
