I spend much of my time travelling back and forth between SoCal and Chicago, meaning I go from one climate to another regularly. This makes it difficult for my body to stay adjusted, and the brutal cold of the Chicago winter does a number on my skin, including my lips. During this current trip, it was 80 degrees when I got to the airport in Santa Ana and 14 degrees when I landed at O’Hare. It is now -2 with a wind chill of -30, and my everything is chapped and dry. But just as Peace Tree Products came to the rescue with their Contact High medicated salve in the past, they have done so again with their Fix medicated lip balm.
Let me first be clear: I’m not normally a fan of lip balms. My girlfriend plays a game where she puts some on and then, knowing my dislike for them, will get me to kiss her. Thus planting a heap of the sweetly scented and sticky substance on my lips. It’s fun… for her.
Peace Tree Products’ Fix is nothing like these heavy chapsticks though. Because it is paraben free, it isn’t waxy and tacky on the lips. Instead, Fix is naturally aromatic and light, with a soothing tingle. Everyone I let use it swore it must be full of peppermint oil due to the crisp, cooling nature. However, there is no mint. And when the senses are pressed further, it is the rosemary that stands out in the scent. Though, the whole experience is very much like a roll in an herb garden. Fresh and invigorating, it is an aromatherapy experience having these essential oils under your nose. The list of mostly organic ingredients includes olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, palm oil, jojoba oil, rosehip oil, hemp seed oil, rosemary extract, and Neem seed oil. And none of those chemical sounding names you can’t pronounce in your drugstore-bought products.
I took a proactive approach to using Peace Tree Products’ Fix lip balm and applied it each time I arrived in Chicago, and not just because I was reviewing it. It soaks in rather than sitting on your lips, meaning it won’t rub off on cups, smoking pieces, or unsuspecting loved ones. I also appreciated that a little went a long way. Unlike popular commercial lip balms that need to be caked on to get results, a quick pass every few hours kept my lips healthy, even in the coldest Polar Vortex. Beyond prevention, the true beauty of Fix is, as advertised in its name, its ability to heal already cracked and sore lips. When getting together with friends, my Fix lip balm was passed around more than the pipe, as it seemed like the cold had done damage to the lips of everyone I came across. It always came back to me with rave reviews and, I have a feeling, more than a couple lifelong fans.
