#5. Key Lime Pie from Second Story
Cherry Pie is a widely sought after bud for most strain geeks. A mix of GDP and Durban Poison, it is a fantastic balance of physical and mental relaxation. Key Lime Pie, the most searched for strain on our site this year, ups the ante by recrossing Cherry Pie with Durban Poison and adding Fire OG for good measure. There is also some speculation outside of the Harborside network that Key Lime Pie may just be a GSC phenotype. Either way, if you can find it on a menu in your area, grab it while you can.
#4. Space Queen from S.A.P.A.
Our fourth place bud, Space Queen is a hybrid of Romulan and Cindy 99 and comes to us from S.A.P.A. in Santa Ana. In our opinion, this crop represents one of the best grown harvests to see the dispensaries this year. Fragrant, fresh, and pillowy, this honey sweet strain is a creativity booster, perfect for when you are working on your passion project late into the night.
#3. Sucker Punched from OCPC
Although any top shelf strain from OCPC could find a home on this list, I probably donated for Sucker Punched more than any other strain this year, and I couldn’t picture a top 5 without it. This indica leaning hybrid became my go to after work strain, and at least once a week, I’d stop off at OCPC on my way home to pick some up. No other strain this year helped me unwind and enjoy my evenings more than Sucker Punched.
#2. Dutch Treat from PSA
This Dutch Treat will go down in the books as one of the oddest strains of the year. First off, the bud structure scoffed at tradition, instead shooting appendages out in any old direction. The sensory characteristics of the strain were equally complex, giving off both sweet and sage flavors. Finally, Dutch Treat provided one of the most face meltingly strong highs of the year, meaning this powerhouse from PSA demanded respect and a place on our list.
#1. Mango Kush from AWC
Once upon a time in 2013, I could drive up to any number of dispensaries in Garden Grove and walk out with a strain as near as can be to 30% THC. Since the crackdown that same year, flower that high in THC is a rare commodity indeed. So when I received a text late last spring that AWC was carrying a Mango Kush that they claimed reached 30%, I had to check it out. And I was not disappointed. Nearing perfection, this strain was fragrantly sweet, visually beautiful, and as advertised, mind poppingly potent.
