The High Times Cannabis Cup begins today at the NOS Center in San Bernardino. Scheduled for Jan 30 and 31 and Feb. 5, 6, and 7, the SoCal Cannabis Cup now runs two weekends after a record breaking turnout last year.
“We are excited to present this super-sized and upgraded Medical Cannabis Cup in SoCal with tremendous partners, musical talent and experts in cannabis,” said David Kohl, President and CEO of High Times in discussing this year’s event. Over 30,000 people are expected to descend on San Bernardino for this Southern California Cannabis Cup, doubling the number of attendees from the last year.
The High Times Cannabis Cup is open to everyone 18 and over, but you need a medical recommendation to access the good stuff. Although doctors are available on site to help you obtain your recommendation, nothing ruins your day faster than waiting 4 hours or longer to get in after paying over $60 to attend.
Featuring 300 cannabis companies in an expanded vendor area, there are plenty of products to check out, and samples historically flow to the patients attending all weekend long. As usual, Vader Extracts are gearing up to go all out in their bid for yet another booth of the year award by sponsoring their Vader Village collection of booths again. However, this year they will have competition from the newly dubbed Raw Village anchoring the other end of the event.
It’s not all about browsing the booths, though. Seminars go all day long most days and include panels on topics such as medical marijuana for veterans, cannabis and the NFL with Kyle Turley, new trends in edibles, medicating for Seniors, and cannabis cultivation with Danny Danko. Regardless of your role within the cannabis community, there is an informational session to suit your interests.
As usual, it is the headline musical acts that help draw in the large numbers like what we saw last year. Tonight, the Roots and De La Soul, both of whom I saw in the 90’s, kick off the Cup with their throwback funk. Next weekend, Wiz Khalifa will greet the crowds on Friday night, while Method Man and Redman and Ghostface Killah will bring down the house on Saturday, Feb. 6.
With such an eclectic collection of educational opportunities, bands, activists, and vendors, there is something for everyone at this year’s High Times Cannabis Cup.
